Ready to apply?
You can start your application long before you have finalised your choice of courses. The UCAS electronic application system allows you to partially fill in your form and save the details until you are ready to send it. So, here’s what you do:
Log onto http://www.ucas.com/ and click on the following links:
Apply
1)Register/ Log-in to use Apply
2) Register
This is simple and takes only a few minutes. If you are applying as part of a school group you will be asked for the school’s buzzword. Your UCAS coordinator/ SYV will supply you with this. If not you register as an individual.
Once you have done this you will receive a user name and password and, after logging in for the first time, a personal ID. You can now start filling in the different sections of the form.
A) Personal details – most of this should be easy.
B) Choices – Fill in your choice of course using codes from the UCAS website.
C) Education – Fill in:
C1) The grades you already have (eg maths A vg)
C2) The courses you are studying at the moment (grade pending ie you are waiting for it)
D) Employment – Fill in any paid jobs you have had.
E) Personal statement – Why you want to study this course and why
you are qualified for it. Also, give some indication of your extra-curricular interests.
Don’t forget to save your details each time you log out!!
Your reference – Ask a teacher who knows you well to write a reference for you. Your referee will be given a code to access your application and will add their referee. They will need to see your personal statement first.
